A crackdown on blue badge fraudsters has seen six fines issued by Brent Council.

Officers from the counter fraud and parking enforcement teams were in Kingsbury Road last week to catch out scammers.

During the operation, 62 badges were checked and five were seized.

The other was taken after a vehicle was towed.

The town hall’s parking chief Cllr Krupa Sheth said: “This successful operation is our warning to fraudsters that we will do everything we can to protect the quality of life for our disabled and vulnerable residents.

“We will continue to clamp down on and, where evidence permits, prosecute those caught abusing the Blue Badge scheme.”

The council said it was getting tough on the illegal use of the badges because they help many disabled people take part in the community.

Every time one of them is illegally used, the parking space they use is taken away from a disabled person who genuinely needs it, chiefs said.
