A mother from Harlesden has appeared in court today accused of trying to send £16,500 to fund alleged Islamic terrorists fighting in Syria.

Amal El-Wahabi, 27, of Rucklidge Avenue, appeared alongside Nabal Masaad, 26, from Holloway, north London, accused of trying to send 20,000 Euros to a suspected British jihadi fighting in the Middle Eastern country’s civil war.

Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard Masaad was arrested at Heathrow Airport on January 16.

El-Wahabi, an unemployed mother-of-two and a close friend of Masaad, was later arrested at her home.

The women are both charged with becoming concerned in an arrangement as a result of which money was made available or was to be made available to another, and they knew or had reasonable cause to suspect that it would or may be used for the purposes of terrorism.

The alleged offences under the Terrorism Act are said to have occurred between January 13 and 16.

The women, who are British of Moroccan descent, were remanded in custody by District Judge Howard Riddle to appear next at the Old Bailey on January 31.

Both waved to family members in the public gallery as they were taken down.
