A hunt is underway for a gunman who threatened police with a firearm after a high speed chase starting in Harlesden resulted in a car crash.

Armed officers and a police helicopter went in search for the suspect following the collision in North Acton yesterday morning.

Police said they attempted to stop a car seen in Harlesden High Street shortly before 8.45am on Thursday.

The man sped off and was pursued by officers who had their blue lights and sirens operating.

He then crashed with a member of the public’s car at the Victoria Road junction with the A40.

Police said he got out of the car then threatened them with what looked like a gun before running away.

Armed police and a team from the National Police Air Service were called but failed to locate the man
