Five men have been sentenced to a total of 42 and a half years’ imprisonment for weapons offences, after cops from Brent found two loaded firearms and a large hunting knife in a car they pursued and stopped during last year’s Notting Hill Carnival weekend.
Officers from the Brent gangs unit were on patrol in Kensal Green on August 27, in the area where the Notting Hill Carnival was due to take place the following day, when they tried stopping a car in Mortimer Road.
After a short pursuit, the car stopped in Burrows Road where some of the passengers made a run for it, according to Scotland Yard.
The driver, Arron White, 33, of Melville Avenue, Greenford, was detained by officers when he got out of the vehicle.
Reneico Linton-Welsh from Milton Keynes ran off but officers soon caught up with him and arrested him.
Two loaded weapons - an Ekol Arda 4mm revolver and a BBM 8mm blank firing pistol - were found in the car along, with a large hunting knife.
Cops were able to identify the car’s other occupants after an extensive investigation.
Denton Carty, 20, of Barley Close, Wembley, and Laquan Gayle, 19 of Compton Road, Brent, were arrested on September 19.
Further enquiries identified Jevan Nugent, 19, of Byron Avenue, Brent, had been in possession of the revolver just before the police stopped the car, and he was arrested on October 6.
White, Linton-Welsh, Carty and Gayle were found guilty at Harrow Crown Court on March 2. They were all sentenced yesterday to six and a half years for possession of a firearm, five years for ammunition for a firearm, and 12 months for possession of an offensive weapon, to be served concurrently.
Linton-Welsh pleaded guilty to possession of a blank firing pistol with intent to cause fear of violence before the trial, and was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment to be served concurrently.
Nugent pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.
