A man from Kilburn arrested in a series of dawn raids targeting notorious crime gang the Adams family has been bailed.

The 40-year-old was questioned on suspicion of money laundering and fraud after 200 police officers executed warrants at 22 addresses in London on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

A total of 15 people were arrested and officers seized £150,000 in cash, designer watches, computers and phones during the operation, codenamed Octopod.

Scotland Yard did not name the criminal ring, which is also known as the A Team, but called it “one of the UK’s longest established and high profile organised crime gangs.

Sean “Tommy” Adams, 57, was arrested at his £2million home in Clerkenwell on suspicion of money laundering along with a 56-year-old woman who was held for fraud offences, in the early hours of this morning.

Adams, a father of four, was jailed for seven years in 1998 for masterminding an £8m smuggling operation and is thought to have established connections between his Clerkenwell Crime Syndicate and Colombian drug “cartels”.

Some of the people arrested are suspected of working as accountants for the gang, while it is claimed others have links to serious and violent crime.

All 15 arrestees have been bailed to return to a police station between June 3 and July 1.

Following the operation, Detective Chief Superintendent Tom Manson said: “This was a painstaking investigation and a discreet operation run by specialist officers until today when the combined resources of the Met were deployed on the arrest phase of the operation.

“Any criminal gang operating in London needs to know that we will tackle them head-on and hit them where it hurts most, by seizing their cash and assets.”
