A man from Brent has been arrested after a laser was shone into a bus driver’s eye in Wembley.
The 22-year-old was held on suspicion of causing danger to road users following the incident in Ealing Road.
Officers from the Met’s Roads and transport unit announced the arrest on social networking site Twitter today.
The arrest comes days after a Virgin Atlantic plane departing from Heathrow Airport was forced to return after a laser was shone at the cockpit resulting in the pilot becoming unwell.
A law passed in 2010 made it an offence for a laser to be pointed at an aircraft in flight.
In 2011, a 19-year-old was convicted of shining a laser pen at a police helicopter ‘to see how far it would go’ as it flew over Third Avenue in Queen’s Park.
The British Airline Pilots Association (Balpa) are calling for lasers to be classified as an offensive weapon.
