A Park Royal man who tried to smuggle cocaine worth £41,000 into the country and was found with a gun and ammunition when police raided his home has been jailed.
Anthony Jones, 29, of Toucan Close, was caught after officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) received a tip-off from US customs about a drugs package that had been posted to him from the Caribbean island of St. Maarten.
The package was intercepted at Heathrow Airport and the drug, found to be 61 per cent pure, was switched for a dummy substitute before being delivered to his address.
A NCA officer posed as a FedEx delivery worker where Jones signed for the parcel before he was arrested minutes later on July 4 this year.
During a search of his home officers discovered the pump-action shotgun and six rounds of ammunition.
Jones has denied importing cocaine and possession of a prohibited weapon but was found guilty at the Old Bailey yesterday and jailed for 11 years.
Ian Truby, from the NCA’s Heathrow border investigation team, said: “This operation has taken a potentially deadly firearm off the streets of London.
“Working with law enforcement colleagues both abroad and at home we are determined to do all we can to disrupt the organised crime groups involved in drug trafficking and associated criminality.”
