Barangu Gulbudak, from Enfield, attacked 48-year-old Huseyin Gulbudak infront of horrified customers as he worked at Efes restaurant in Kilburn High Road.

The 21-year-old, who had mental health difficulties, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on May 2 to life imprisonment with a recommendation to serve a minimum six and a half years.

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

He was given a hospital order.

Officers were called to the café at 7pm on August 1 last year where witnesses reported seeing Barangu Gulbudak walk into the café, owned by Huseyin, and attack his father with a knife after pulling him to the floor.

Customers in the café attempted to intervene but Barangu Gulbudak threatened them with the knife and forced them to leave the premises, said police.

He then pulled down the shutters and shut himself inside the café with his father.

The father-of-two was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the attack Barangu Gulbudak called police to tell them he had killed his father and he was arrested that evening.

He refused to speak during the police interview but was charged with murder.

Subsequent assessments by medical professionals established he had been suffering mental health issues prior to the attack.

Det Insp Domenica Catino of the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command said: “Huseyin was a hard-working, family man who had run his café for many years and was a well-known member of the community.

“His murder has understandably left the Gulbudak family devastated.”
