A Romanian who attacked a man in Wembley and jumped bail before his trial by fleeing back to his homeland is finally behind bars.

Marian Calina, 27, evaded justice for two years after he was jailed in his absence for coshing his victim with a large masonry drill bit in Llanover Road.

He was charged with grievous bodily harm for the attack in September 2011 but failed to show up in court the following year.

After fleeing back to Romania he returned to the UK and settled in Northolt under a false name however he was traced and subsequently arrested.

He is now in jail serving his original five year sentence.

Acting Detective Sergeant Kevin Harvey from Brent Police said: “The investigating that led to the locating and arrest of this offender shows the police will continue to search for and bring to justice those who have broken the law.

“Regardless of how long that may take.”
