Arron Payne died after he was knifed in Chalkhill Road in September last year
A Wembley man was beaten and stabbed to death by five men in a planned revenge attack, the Old Bailey heard.
Arron Payne, 26, was set upon in Chalkhill Road, Wembley, in broad daylight in front of shocked witnesses on September 5 last year.
Jurors heard claims he was targeted after he intervened in a fight between his cousin and one of the killers the previous day.
The feud began as a petty row between Simeon Campbell and his former friend Tachane Roach-Johnson, 23, of Roger Stone Court in Coombe Road, Neasden, on the afternoon of 4 September last year, the court heard.
A few hours later Mr Campbell contacted his cousin Arron Payne for help after learning that Roach-Johnson and two other men were ‘looking for him.’
Mr Campbell arranged a meeting with Roach-Johnson at the Preston Pub in Wembley, but it quickly spiralled into a fight ending in Roach-Johnson being knocked unconscious.
Prosecutor Sally Howes QC said that the next day Roach-Johnson and his friends decided to take revenge for being ‘disrespected’.
She said: “Unfortunately for Arron Payne he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. When the conspirators realised that he was alone, unsuspecting and heading towards them they switched targets.”
Mr Payne was taken to hospital for treatment and was released from hospital on September 13. He collapsed and died later the same day.
Roach Johnson is accused of taking part in the attack along with Dean Gabay, 23, of no fixed address, Mark Reid, 29, of Demeta Close, Wembley, and brothers Jarveer, 22, and Jamal Walters, 18, also of Roger Stone Court.
It is claimed the knifeman was Dean Gabay.
All five deny murder and conspiracy to cause GBH with intent.
Reid also denies assisting an offender.
The trial continues.
