A former chairman of Brent Youth Parliament has appeared in court today accused of beating a female student in the library at his university.

Kishan Parshotam, of The Green, Wembley, is claimed to have assaulted Khushboo Miyani in the reading room located in the London School of Economics on March 14 this year.

Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard the 20-year-old is set to take up an internship with Barclay’s Bank after he completes his exams this year.

Prosecutor Carolina Cabral said: “He accepts being in the library at this time, but denies a physical confrontation amounting to a criminal assault.”

District Judge James Henderson granted Parshotam bail to return to Westminster Magistrates’ Court for trial on June 26.

Parshotam, who attended court with his parents, spoke only to confirm his identity and enter a not guilty plea to a single charge of assault by beating.

He was bailed on the condition that he does not contact the alleged victim, or any of the witnesses in the case.

Parshotam, who held the BYP role between 2010-2012, denies one count of assault by beating.
