WPC was attacked by man as she tried to arrest him

A female police officer was strangled and a special constable punched while they tried to make an arrest in Kingsbury yesterday.

Brent Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the double attack outside Nationwide in Kingsbury High Road, at around 8.20pm.

Both were on plain clothes patrol when they spotted two men acting suspiciously.

As they attempted to search one of the men they were attacked.

The officer was trying to him restrain him when she overpowered her before placing his hands around her neck and trying to strangle her.

He also punched an off duty special constable in the face who also tried to detain him.

A 22-year-old was detained and arrested for assaulting a police officer and possession with intent to supply class B drugs.

He is currently in custody.
