A 31-year-old man has been arrested following the overnight siege in Sylvan Grove.

Officers were called to the property at 11.50 pm on Monday and called for armed back up after they saw a man through a window believed to be in possession of a firearm.

A woman in her 40s and two 14-year-old girls were also in the property where officers had initially arrived to make arrest enquiries regarding an alleged rape and threats to kill.

A police spokesman said: “The man subsequently refused to co-operate with police and remained inside the property.

“Police officers, including a specialist negotiator, attended the location and local roads were closed in the area.”

Armed officers stormed the property at 6.50 this morning.

A handgun was found and the man was arrested.

He remains in custody at a north London police station.

Ch Supt Mick Gallagher, borough commander for Brent, said: “Officers acted professionally in what was a difficult situation that thankfully ended in a safe resolution with no one harmed.

“Police would like thank the local community for their co-operation throughout the operation.”
