Members of the Cricklewood Community Choir have started up a crowdfunding campaign to get older residents dancing.
The project, Cricklewood Music and Dance, is designed to stimulate both minds and bodies in an integrated way by providing music and dance to those with dementia and their carers.
The choir meets weekly at Ashford Place, where a Dementia Cafe is based, where work with vulnerable adults and their carers are carried out.
The singers, who are perfoming at Landsdown Old People’s Home in Claremont Road this afternoon, regularly travel to hospitals to liven up peoples’ lives.
However to get the project started they need to find and fund a dance tutor.
Elizabeth Buchan, author, said: “I am delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile project. It will help to make lives better.”
Don Macdonald, from the Cricklewood Community Choir, said: “The new project is based on research about the positive effects of music and dance. It is also based on the fact that when the choir sings in the dementia projects, elders sing and others get up and dance.”
