A married couple have raised more than £1,000 for a Kenton charity by both shaving their heads.
Nick and Addy Hodgson undertook the mission in support of St Luke’s Hospice in Kenton Road, where Mrs Hodgson’s mother Sharron spent her last days.
Mr Hodgson now plans to raise more money for the hospice by leaping 10,000ft through the clouds in memory of his late mother-in-law who died from breast cancer.
He said: “My mother in law, Sharron, had already beaten breast cancer once when my wife and I met, having had a double mastectomy.
“Unfortunately it came back again, for the second time, this time in her lungs. She went for chemo and did everything as before. She didn’t let this effect her life, she continued to foster a young boy, was very active and I remember hearing about her standing on a chair painting her kitchen not long before she went into St Luke’s.
“Sharron was intended to be in the hospice for a few days for some pain relief but was there for 10 days before she passed away.
“We made it through that time with the support from St Luke’s. The hospice itself was a great setting, creating comfort not only for the people there but for family members as well. We went through a lot of things around that time and my memories are more of the relaxed atmosphere and comfort at St Luke’s.”
He added: “We don’t plan on stopping there. At some point we will attempt to run a marathon, but for now it’s skydiving for me.”
Mr Hodgson will be taking part in the annual St Luke’s skydive on October 22.
