Police are appealing for help in tracking down a man they believe is armed and dangerous.

Yacine Van Erpe, a 31 year old French Algerian, is thought to have attacked a 28-year-old man just before 8pm on September 2 2008 at the Casablanca Café, Harrow Road, Kensal Green.

As the victim left the café Van Erpe is believed to have pushed him from behind and stabbed him twice in the stomach and once in the chest with a large kitchen knife.

He was held by members of the public and disarmed, before making off just before the police arrived.

Van Erpe, white with receding red hair, 6ft tall of slim build with stubble and often wears a baseball cap, is not known by his name but by the French Algerian community as 'rougee'.

If spotted the public should call police and not to approach Van Erpe as he is believed to be dangerous.

DC Matt Richardson, the officer in charge of the investigation said: "This was a violent unprovoked attack which could have been much more serious had members of the public not intervened. Van Erpe is currently at large, is still believed to be in the London area and carrying a knife."

If sighted, the public should call Police immediately on 999 or Hammersmith Police Station on 020 8246 2505.

To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
