Twenty five litter pickers from Kingsbury Neighbourhood Watch and Colindale Litter Pickers took two hours to fill 30 bags of rubbish in Roe Green Park on September 2.

They were shocked to find hidden amongst foliage two large marchete knives.

Cathryn Walsh, a volunteer from Kingsbury Neighbourhood Watch, which was set up following the attack of a 90-year-old neighbour in June, said: “The machetes were at least 50cm, absolutely enormous hidden in bushes. We handed them over to police.

“Thank you all again my green hearted litter pickers, hope to see you at the next one.”

She said half their haul was taken away by Veolia, Brent Council’s contracted environment company, before the group had finished.

The next litter pick has been noted for September 23 in Fryent Country Park at 11am.
