A plantation worker from South American will talk about how fairly traded products help the less privileged to commemorate a special event in Brent.

Alexis Martinez Palacios, who works on a banana plantation in Colombia is set to deliver his speech at the civic centre on March 3 to commemorate Fairtrade (FT) Fortnight which started on Monday and runs until March 9.

Mr Palacios will explore he’s experiences at the FT certified agricultural plot he works on -which sets a minimum price for its export sales and a premium which is invested into community development.

Councillor Roxanne Mashari, lead member for environment and neighbourhoods, said: “I would like to warmly welcome Alexis to Brent. We are proud to be a Fairtrade borough and support the movement.

“I hope as many residents as possible will attend to hear his inspiring message and find out what they can do to promote a fairer world trade system and higher living standards for producers in developing countries.”

The event, organised by Brent Fairtrade Network, will also feature a short film and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
