Chris Ramsey was disgusted with his side’s performance on Tuesday night as QPR crashed out of the Capital One Cup against Carlisle United, and hinted he is running out of patience with certain players.

Rangers were beaten 2-1 by the League Two side in W12 as their awful cup record continued.

It was the seventh time in 10 years that QPR have been eliminated by lower-league opposition in the League Cup.

And, while Ramsey refused to name names, he appeared to be directing his criticism at the likes of Junior Hoilett, who was jeered by fans after being substituted in the second half.

The head coach revealed he would be talking to the club’s owners about strengthening the squad before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

“Not many have passed the audition tonight and that is the problem,” said Ramsey. “I’ll be speaking to the owners and making sure we don’t have to use all those guys. Based on the display of some of the players we need to strengthen because we need much more depth.

“There are one or two, with their league experience, who need to look at themselves because they have been here a little while and you have got to take your chances.

“You also have to look at the way the club has treated players fantastically over the last few years, and it’s about time they start realising that this is a precious situation they’ve been put into and they need to start paying back the faith people have put in them.

“You have got to look at why the club has brought you in or why you are still at the club, and if you are not prepared to at least put your heart on your sleeve for the club then we don’t need you.

“On this performance some of the players who have not been picked recently have not done enough to be picked again and I would pick the kids over them.”

Youngsters Reece Grego-Cox and Cole Kpekawa were handed their full competitive home debuts against Carlisle, and Ramsey stressed he had no issue with their performances.

“I didn’t think the young kids were to blame and I don’t regret playing them,” he said. “Some of the players who are little bit more experienced, barring Clint [Hill], needed to step up and show some of the kids what it’s all about.”

Ramsey made 10 changes to the side which beat Rotherham 4-2 at Loftus Road on Saturday, but insisted the team he selected was more than good enough to progress to the next round.

“Where we are at as a club right now, you could quite easily put that team out in the league and it should have been capable of beating a team like Carlisle,” said Ramsey.

“I don’t regret the changes. There is nothing to regret because I’ve played bona fide players. I’ve not played the youth team, I’ve played bona fide players.”

Rangers have now conceded 10 goals in just six games in all competitions so far this season.

“I’m not happy because we have been very soft and conceded two goals again,” he said. “Every game we have let two goals in and that cannot be right.”
