Brave charity supporters took on a hot challenge without getting burnt to raise more than £6,000 for a hospice in Kenton.
The 34 participants walked across a 30ft bed of 1,200 fahrenheit hot coals or a 30ft bed of broken glass to raise funds for St Luke’s Hospice.
Bilal Ali, a 26-year-old office worker who took part in both walks, said: “I’ve known about the fire walk for three years and I’ve been interested in doing it but I am always too late to participate. I’ve finally taken the chance and it was a fantastic and liberating experience.
“You cannot let your apprehension, doubt or fear hold you back. The event is also helping St Luke’s who give people a better quality of life in their last years.”
There were no optical illusions or special tricks involved so the daring walker overcame their fears to take part in the challenge on Halloween night
It was held at Claremont Secondary School in Claremont Avenue, Kenton, and walkers were supported by Cliff Mann, St Luke’s highly trained instructor.
Fiona Bay, who turns 60 this month, took part in the event after adding it to a list of 60 daring and extreme activities to complete before her milestone birthday.
She said: “This challenge is my final one, the 60th on my list because I wanted to go out in style and in a blaze of glory. Well, that’s exactly what happened!
“The 60 list is officially completed. Job done and thank you St Luke’s.”
