A home care provider in Kingsbury has become the latest company in Brent to pay a living wage to its employees.

Home Instead Senior Care Wembley, in Honeypot Lane, is the 23rd business to receive their London Living Wage accreditation.

The company is the first home care provider in the borough to increase its wages to £9.40 per hour, the amount a person needs to earn to afford a basic standard of living in London.

Leena Lakhani, director of Home Instead Senior Care Wembley, said: “We are proud to be a London Living Wage accredited employer. We want to be an employer of choice, and look after our employees who do essential work as Care Givers.

“By ensuring they are paid enough to support themselves and their families, we are valuing the wonderful work they do.”

Cllr Roxanne Mashari, Brent Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, growth, employment and skills, said: “Many hard-working people on low wages struggle to make ends meet and it is up to all employers in Brent to do everything we can to ensure that a fair day’s work leads to a fair day’s pay.

“We know that paying the living wage is not only the right thing to do, but it makes good business sense too as it incentivises staff and helps to recruit and retain the best people, so I am delighted that Home Instead Senior Care have today joined our Living Wage community.

“They set an example by being the first of the care industry in Brent to receive their accreditation, and we hope to see more following in their footsteps.”

Brent Council offers an incentive package to businesses who receive their Living Wage accreditation, which includes a discount on their business rates of up to £5,000.
