Beleaguered residents on a 'nightmare' road will appeal to the new mayor to address the number of buses choking the area.Residents are claiming a number of collisions on Staverton Road, Willesden, involving number 52 and 302 buses are down to the high volume of services.

Campaigners have fought for more than a decade to have services reduced or redirected, and have slammed transport bosses for not taking action.

They have now vowed to carry the fight to London Mayor, Boris Johnson, appealing for commonsense and demanding an end to the problem.

Resident Louise McLean said: "Ken Livingstone's heavy-handed attitude in refusing to deal with the problem has left us feeling abandoned.

"We hope that Boris Johnson will be fairer."

Residents claim the road is a frequent scene of congestion and obstructions, and at one point an ambulance responding to an emergency call was stranded between two stationary buses.

A spokesman for Mr Johnson said: "There are currently no plans to re-route the number 52 or 302 services, but three years ago Transport for London did reduce the number of buses by a third in response to the requests of residents.
