Police on scene as flood hits road.

A burst watermain on the North Circular Road near Brent Cross has led to large traffic problems in the area.

Water has flooded much of the area and Thames Water has turned off the mains in a bid to get the burst fixed.

Traffic is queuing westbound beyond Colney Hatch Lane and eastbound to Harrow Road.

A Transport for London spokesman said: “Due to a burst Thames Water main the A406 Brent Cross Interchange is heavily flooded and is impassable. This section of road has been closed in both directions since around 08:00 this morning.

“Our teams are on site and have put a diversion in place, however drivers should seek alternative routes or allow extra time for their journey. We are working with Thames Water and they assure us they are working to repair the water main as quickly as possible.”

A Thames Water spokesman said: “A large water main burst this morning causing flooding to the North Circular in NW2.

“Our engineers are currently on the scene working to turn off the water running through the broken section of pipe before they dig it up and replace it.

“Water escaping from the broken main is flooding three west-bound lanes of the carriageway.

“We are really sorry for the disruption. We are working as hard as we can to get things back to normal.”
