Fed up Brent students lobbied outside Transport for London (TfL) offices over infrequent buses -dressed in their pyjamas and armed with their favorite teddy bears.

Brent representatives of student charity Citizen met outside the offices in a bid to push TfL chiefs to respond to their requests to improve services for the 206 bus route in their area.

Frustrated Ark Academy students claim that bus delays can result in a waiting times, stretching to 40 minutes during peak periods.

Paul Amuzie, Citizens UK’s community organiser in Brent told the Times that a number of schools including SFX College in Wandsworth in Citizens UK’s membership have expressed their frustration at the lack of buses during busy peak periods.

Samir Hussain, who is 14 year-old pupil of the Wembley academy said: “My friends and I are often waiting around in the cold until past five o’clock just to get on a bus home.

“We haven’t had a response from anyone at Transport for London.”

Members of the charity met with Leon Daniels, TfL Managing Director or Surface Transport, urging him to heed their concerns.

“We’re getting tired of waiting for buses, and waiting for someone to listen to our concerns,” Samir said.

“That’s what we are asking for today, Mr Daniels to take our concerns seriously.”

Mike Weston, TfL’s Director of Buses told the times that measures will be put in place to ease the pressures on the Brent bus route.

He said: “Both the route 206, serving Ark Academy in Wembley, and the route 155, that serves SFX College in Wandsworth, are busy bus routes.

“In both cases we are already developing plans to provide further increases in capacity on these routes at the busiest times to meet the needs of passengers in the area.

We are in the process of exploring the best way to do this and would welcome an opportunity to discuss the services with Ark Academy and SFX College.

“We have offered to meet them previously to resolve their concerns, and are pleased to say that Leon Daniels, TfL’s Managing Director of Surface Transport will meet them tomorrow.”
