Members of the UK Youth Parliament sat in the House of Commons last week where Brent’s representative was on ‘‘top form’’ with her winning topic.
Chante Joseph, Brent’s UKYP representative, delivered a speech on A Curriculum to Prepare Us For Life, which was voted as the number one topic to be campaigned on in the coming year.
The Youth Parliament sat in the Commons for its annual event, now in its fifth year. It is the only time that people other than MPs can debate in the chamber.
They received close to 500,000 ballots, with 7,000 of those from Brent’s young people.
Five issues were picked for discussion, including youth unemployment and votes for 16 and 17-year-olds.
Brent Youth Parliament is holding its annual induction at the Brent Civic Centre on November 30 for anyone wishing to join. Visit www.bmyvoice.org.uk.
