Brent MP launches petition to save Willesden Green pub
Sarah Teather supports fight to save The Queensbury in Walm Lane
The fight to save a popular pub in Willesden Green from demolition has been given an extra boost after the MP for the area threw her weight behind the campaign.
Sarah Teather, MP for Brent Central, has launched a petition against the plans which will see The Queensbury Pub in Walm Lane torn down and replaced with a ten storey tower block.
Residents have already told the Times at their anger over the plans, which would also threaten the Queensbury Deli and result in the loss of the Conservative Club.
A popular mother and baby club who use the Deli could also be forced to move.
There are concerns that if the proposal goes ahead the area would not only lose a much loved local pub but also the historic building.
The Liberal Democrat MP said: “A ten storey tower block in Willesden Green is completely out of character for the local area - it will stick out like a sore thumb.

“Put together with the loss of the popular community pub the Queensbury this is a recipe that spells disaster for our high street.
“The developers really need to go back to the drawing board and come up with something that will benefit the local area not harm it.”
The pub has also been championed by former Mayor of London, Ken Livingston (LAB), who lives in Cricklewood.

Miss Teather is also encouraging people to print copies of the petition and encourage friends to sign up.
