Sarah Teather takes part in school’s cookery class
Schoolchildren in the borough cooked up a storm after they were treated to a special visit from a leading borough MP.
MP for Brent Central and Minister for Children and Families Sarah Teather, was on hand at St Robert Southwell Catholic Primary yesterday (Wednesday) to partake in a cookery class.
The pupils at the school in Slough Lane, Kingsbury, were keen to show the MP their skills during the morning, which formed part of the annual ‘make, take home and share’ cooking day – run by the Let’s Get Cooking club.
The MP said: “Learning how to cook affordable, healthy food from scratch is an important part of the school experience for children.”
Rob Rees, Chairman of the School Food Trust which also leads Let’s Get Cooking said the day increased the importance for healthy eating amongst children.
He said: “Nationally, our research has shown that more than half of Let’s Get Cooking club members eat a healthier diet after learning to cook.”
The morning tied in with the School Food Trust’s calls for practical cooking to be compulsory for all children on the national curriculum.
