A Brent councillor has been named as the first ever ‘park champion’ who will aim to make the most out of the green spaces in the borough.

The new role has been appointed to Cllr James Denselow in agreement with the City of London Corporation, which manages the award-winning Queen’s Park.

Cllr Denselow, who is a Labour councillor for the Queen’s Park ward, will report annually on the town hall’s spend per resident in caring for parks in Brent, and commit to the provision of good accessible parks and a borough-wide green space strategy.

He said: “I’m honoured to be elected the first ever Queen’s Park, Park Champion.

“As someone who grew up in the area and spent countless hours in the park playing football I look forward to championing its cause both in the civic centre and beyond.”

Richard Gentry, manager of Queen’s Park, said: “Queen’s Park is recognised as one of the best run and well-loved parks in the UK.

“We look forward to working as closely as we can with Cllr Denselow and developing partnerships with Brent Council.”
