Brent Council have approved a scheme this afternoon to charge residents an annual fee to have their green waste collected.
From next March all households must pay a £40 a year ‘garden tax’ levy otherwise they will have their green bins removed.
According to the council the scheme will save them £400,000 a year but some of the savings will be used to fund an increase in the collection of other recyclables such as glass and paper from fortnightly to weekly.
More to come soon.
