It’s Valentine’s Day and love is in the air so residents are being urged to spread some across the borough by supporting a new campaign by Brent Council.

The aptly-named ‘Love where you live’ is encouraging people to take an active role in making Brent a better, happier place to live.

The first phase of the campaign, which is being backed by the Brent & Kilburn Times, features stories of people who are making their streets cleaner and greener.

The community-minded residents are doing so by undertaking simple tasks such as reporting illegally dumped rubbish or graffiti, recycling waste or getting involved in clean up days.

The campaign, which started three days ago, showcases some of the simple actions residents can take to enrich their local communities.

Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, said: “As a local boy, born and bred I love Brent and know that many, many of my fellow residents do too. As a borough we have many challenges facing us but by working together we can achieve some great things.

“With the council and residents working closely together with local partners, such as Veolia and the voluntary sector, we can harness our combined energy and make a real difference to our communities.

“I have worked with many inspiring residents over the years and hope their stories will empower others to do the same. “

Cllr Eleanor Southwood, Brent Council’s cabinet member for the environment, added: “I’m really looking forward to working in partnership with our residents on this campaign. If residents are happy to report incidents of illegally dumped rubbish, littering and graffiti because they ‘Love where they live’, I am positive that we can achieve our aim of making our fantastic borough cleaner and greener.”
