New migrants in Brent will benefit from a community outreach team and English language courses thanks to a £440,000 grant given to the town hall.

The council was given a share of a £19million government pot to help supper emerging communities across the country.

The cash will be spread out over three years and will also be spent on hosting eastern European and Latin American fairs, English workshops and cross-cultural activities.

Deputy leader Cllr Margaret McLennan said: “Brent is one of the most diverse boroughs in London and we want to make sure new residents feel supported and equipped to take part in everyday life. At a time of stretched resources for councils across the country, this funding will help meet the challenges of a growing population. This funding gives us the opportunity to provide a wealth of resources for new residents.”
