Crowds attending a launch party to celebrate the opening of a new community hub in Queen’s Park simply didn’t want to leave according to its founder.

The Queen’s Park Garden (QPG) Community Hub officially opened in Kilburn Lane on Monday evening with food, drinks and activities for all those present.

The hub has been set up by Cllr Ryan Dalton, of Queen’s Park Community Council (QPCC), and his co-director David Fakhr who are working in partnership with London Sports Trust to provide a range of free, or incredibly cheap, activities for the community.

Cllr Dalton set up his free QPG football academy last year and worked all summer with his team to ensure the building was ready for use with a packed schedule of programmes.

He said: “The launch was a huge success with people staying a lot longer than they said they would.

“It is wonderful that after only 18 months since its inception, QPG has grown so phenomenally, the support it has received from local parents and the enjoyment from local children makes the whole experience so rewarding.”

People of all ages attended the event which included arts and crafts and smoothie making.

There were also demonstrations of some of what is on offer at the centre including free English classes.

The community now can enjoy a range of programmes including mother and baby joga as well as a variety of sport such as kickboxing sessions for £2.

During the week under 15’s can receive help with their homework which includes dedicated help with key stage 2 English and maths lessons.

Free maths, English and science GCSE sessions are also offered with QPG’s partners Language in the Community and college students can get free help with their university applications.

This Friday sees the launch of the hub’s new dance and exercise classes for children who are aged 13 and under.

Cllr Dalton added: “I have such a brilliant team and partners and we are all very excited about the future.

“When I set up QPG football academy and QPG sports hub I knew that I would need to do more to ensure that education also played a factor as well as all the weekly sports, and now that we have our own premises we can do that.”
