A three-year-old boy who was killed after being hit by a car outside his Queensbury home had arrived in the UK five days before he died.

Mircea Stefan was playing with his older sister in Lowther Road, when he crossed the narrow cul-de-sac and was knocked over by a 4x4 car last Thursday.

The youngster had come to England from Romania with his mother Mihaela and 14-year-old Ioana Alexandra to live with his father Mircea Ivanescu.

A former engineer in Bucharest and a plumber in London, Mr Ivanescu moved to the detached house a month ago after arriving in England last year.

The heartbroken father said: “My children were playing outside and my son wanted to come home and he ran across the road.

“My life now is only for the rest of my family to stay on their feet and not break down.

“I came here a year ago to make a good life for my family. My son, my wife and daughter joined me on May 28 so I was only happy for five days.”

The driver whose car hit Mircea stopped at the scene and she was not arrested.

Mr Ivanescu said: “I don’t blame the driver as she did not see him.

“The police told me she had no drugs or alcohol in her system.

“I don’t know what speed she was driving but the police are investigating this.”

Detectives from the roads and transport policing command would like to speak any witnesses.
