Wembley Park will be illuminated at the weekend with a free fireworks display and light parade festival.

About 30,000 people are expected to attend the Light Up the Night spectacular on Sunday from 4pm.

The festival will be Wembley Park’s first fusion of bonfire night and Diwali.

Entertainment includes a procession of 20 fire torches, Bollywood Brass Band, Doctor Kronovator’s Fire Laboratory, EEA’s famous go-anywhere mechanical elephant, giant illuminated butterflies and acts on three performance stages.

The light parade, which begins at 6pm on Engineers Way, features hundreds of lanterns made by schoolchildren, community groups and during library workshops earlier in the day.

The parade features performers from Wembley costume designers Mahogany Carnival Arts, known at Notting Hill Carnival for their large scale, kinetic costumes.

A light show from Wembley Stadium Arch kicks off a spectacular 12-minute firework display after the parade, choreographed to a bespoke soundtrack of Indian music.

As part of the festival, Brent’s Hindu Council will launch a Rangoli art exhibition at Wembley Park Library that day which will run until November 7.

Traditional decorative patterns are created using materials such as rice, flour, and petals. They are believed to bring good luck.

Upendra Solanki, from the Hindu Council for Brent said: “This five-day festival is one of the most significant events in the Indian culture.

“Hindu culture and traditions have become part of the culture of Brent, so it is important that we celebrate and promote the cultural events and all its aspects.”

James Saunders, chief operating officer at Quintain, Wembley Park’s regeneration giant, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting an event which celebrates the cultural diversity of Brent, in a night of spectacular fireworks and light displays, an event for all the family.”

Brent Council leader, Cllr Muhammed Butt, added: “This is always a special time of year in Brent, with a celebration including Diwali and Bonfire Night lighting up the dark winter skies. We’ve got a whole afternoon of fun activities for all the family planned as well as the iconic backdrop of Wembley Stadium for the fireworks finale.”
