A beloved scout hut in Sudbury was given a new lease of life thanks to efforts by the community and a mainstream supermarket chain.

The hut which hosts children’s group Daniel’s Den, on Harrow Road, had become run down but received a much needed makeover by volunteers and Tesco workers.

Improvements to the building include a new disabled access, an outside bus shelter for buggies and a complete re-landscaping of the area.

The hut also serves as a hub for parent and toddler groups and is widely used by elderly residents as a social point.

Joanna Gordon, who owns Daniel’s Den, said “At Daniel’s Den we have the motto ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’ and whether it is supporting families or building community, we live it out.

“The way in which Tesco has just embraced supporting the community through the makeover of the hut - not just words but action - has been overwhelming.”
