Residents in Barnet and Brent have campaigned against proposals for 2,000 new homes
Barnet Council have given controversial development plans on the Welsh Harp reservoir the go ahead.
At a planning meeting held tonight the council voted five to four in favour of the scheme which will result in more than 2,000 homes being built near the nature reserve on the border of Brent.
Resident and politicians from both boroughs have campaigned against the plans, submitted by Barratt Metropolitan LLP, claiming the new homes will spoil the landscape of the reservoir.
A petition signed by more than 850 Brent residents was presented to Barnet Council in May and last month Brent Council’s executive member submitted a letter to Barnet’s senior planning officer Thomas Wyld.
The proposals will now need approval from the Mayor of London Boris Johnson before they can go ahead.
