Publication details more than 100 years of the Neasden nature park
A former town planner, who has published a book detailing decades of history at one of the borough’s best loved areas is calling on two mystery faces featured to be revealed.
“Welsh Harp Reservoir through Time” by Geoffrey Hewlett provides intricate detail into the history of the reservoir in Woodfield Park with images stretching back more than 100 years.
Among the photos include documentation of the women’s European Rowing Championships which took place on the Harp in 1960 and waterside activities dating back to 1897.
However, one smiling couple amongst the 170 pictures featured have remained a mystery to this day.
Speaking to the Brent and Kilburn Times, photographer Philip Grant, who gathered together the images for the book recalled the moment he snapped the happy dog walkers.
He said: “One of pictures we needed was one that showed everyday recreation near the water that we could compare with one taken in 1897.”
“I found a suitable location while out walking and had just got my camera out when a couple came along.”
The photograph, which shows a man and a woman with their two dogs in the sunshine, was taken earlier this year on June 25.
He continued: “I asked if I could take their picture, and they said ‘go ahead’, but they walked on before I had chance to tell them that it might be used in a book!
“If any of your readers recognise them, I would be grateful if they would tell them that their photograph is published and to get in touch.”
