Established in 1886, the charity in Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green, is a sanctuary for all creatures that need a roof over their heads.

It relies entirely on donations and legacies from benefactors to meet running costs of £3,000 a day, and for kind-hearted volunteers to help staff with their duties.

In addition to looking after the animals, which are usually dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs, the Mayhew offers veterinary services, including free neutering of “bull breed” dogs.

If you are interested in any of the featured animals call 020 8969 0178. For more information about The Mayhew visit www.themayhew.org.
