Two Wembley Park pupils are off to Cambridge University while another who started school life with barely any English is heading to Warwick.

This spells a bumper crop of success for the Ark Academy in Bridge Road, Wembley Park as it celebrates “outstanding” A-Level results with its first cohort of students to take the exams.

The pupils have grown with the school which opened in 2010 and many of them achieved the top grades needed to enable them to attain top university places.

Of the 75 students in Year 13, 57 per cent achieved three or more A*-C grades and nearly a third three or more A*-B grades.

Overall 94 pc achieved university places, with 25pc attaining Russell group places.

Head boy Clement Owusu arrived in Year 8 from Italy with little English and scored three A’s in economics, geography and philosophy. He is off to Warwick University to study philosophy and global sustainable development.

The 18-year-old, along with six other Year 13 students, is a recipient of a Marshall Wace Bursary to help talented Ark students heading for top universities, who might not otherwise be able to afford higher education. Clement said: “The support from my teachers was immense.”

Two students gained places at Cambridge University. Jai Sorabji Stewart achieved four A*s in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry and will study mathematics. Aliyah Lashani-Ewing will also be studying philosophy at Cambridge after attaining three A*s.

Many other students gained the grades to get them university places. Andrei Bogdan will be studying computer science at Bristol, five students are setting off to various universities to study maths and engineering also proved to be very popular choice with eight students attending a variety of top universities from Bath to Sheffield.

Delia Smith OBE, principal, said she was “delighted” for the first university students from Ark Academy who have gained “so many excellent places”. She added: “This is what it is all about transforming young people’s lives through the gift of education.

We are all thrilled and full of optimism for their futures”.
