A 63 year old pedestrian who was hit by a car that failed to stop has died

The man has been named as Rajesh Kumar Naik and next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

At around 11.45pm on Saturday August 5, a car was involved in a collision with a pedestrian in Gladstone Way, Harrow near the junction with Palmerston Road.

A post mortem examination will be held in due course.

On August 7 a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after a collision and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation.

Detective Sergeant Chris Osborne, investigating from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I’m appealing for anyone who saw the collision in Gladstone Way that night to get in contact with police.

“Our investigation has so far established that police were called to a fight between two groups of youths shortly before the collision. It is possible that this is linked to the collision that killed Mr Naik due to the timing and proximity.

“If anyone saw this fight or a brown Mercedes car driving away from Gladstone Way then please get in touch with us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the investigation team on 020 8991 9555, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
