A decade-long community investment plan is taking shape in part of London.
A neighbourhood in Brent will benefit from £20 million in funding as part of the government's Pride in Place programme, aimed at supporting areas facing high levels of inequality.
St Raphael’s will see improvements delivered over the next 10 years through a community-led approach.
Priyesh Patel, a local resident and community leader, has been appointed as the independent chair of the St Raphael’s Neighbourhood Board, which will oversee how the funding is spent.
Mr Patel said: "St Raphael’s is my home, and I’m honoured to have the opportunity to work directly with residents and community groups to shape how this investment can create an even greater sense of pride in the area we live in.
"My role will be to advocate for residents to lead the way in shaping how this investment can bring about meaningful and lasting change."
Councillor Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, said: "The real strength of Pride in Place is that it puts local people in the driving seat, backed by the money to deliver lasting change for the area."
Brent East MP Dawn Butler said: "I have the utmost confidence that he will work constructively with residents, local partners and stakeholders to ensure that St Raphael’s embodies its full potential and becomes a neighbourhood where the community has a genuine stake in its flourishing and development."
St Raphael’s is one of two areas in Brent selected for Pride in Place funding, alongside Harlesden.
