Four people have been taken to hospital after a fire at a shop in Wembley.

Firefighters were called to Bridge Road close to the junction with Chalkhill Road just before 4pm this afternoon (February 27).

The road was shut, and a cordon put in place outside supermarket Wembley Park Food Center.

London Ambulance Service has said it treated four people at the scene before rushing them to hospital.

At around 5.30pm, a spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said that the fire was “under control” but that firefighters continued to work to fully extinguish it.

Reacting to reports of the blaze on X, Brent councillor for Brondesbury Park Cllr Ryan Hack said: "This is very sad. Hope everyone is safe."

The condition of the four people taken to hospital by ambulance is not yet known.

Footage from the scene appeared to show an attempt to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher before the arrival of LFB.

Smoke could be seen pouring from a shop entrance, and a large crowd appeared to have gathered.

Pictures taken later this evening show that a cordon and at least one fire engine remain in place at the scene.
