A predatory sex offender who subjected an 11-year-old girl to a series of rapes and sexual assaults for more than a year has been jailed.

Abbas Alsaed, 28, of Kingsbury, raped and sexually assaulted the girl on numerous occasions in Fryent Country Park, Wembley, between May 2021 and June 2022.

In December last year he pleaded guilty to eight counts of rape and sexual assault at Harrow Crown Court.

The court heard that Alsaed befriended the victim and took her mobile phone number after approaching her in the park, claiming to be a child protection officer.

Over the course of the next 12 months, Alsaed, described by police as “a dangerous and manipulative individual”, consistently lured the girl to a wooded area of Fryent Country Park.

Here, he subjected the victim to a prolonged campaign of “traumatic abuse”.

Police were eventually alerted to the offences by a member of staff at the girl’s school.

After a failed arrest attempt, Alsaed spoke with police and said he would hand himself in.

Instead, the 28-year-old callously fled the country, initially travelling to the Netherlands. Officers believed that he was eventually hoping to travel onwards to Iraq.

Police were then able to arrest Alsaed at St Pancras station when he returned to the country on August 15, 2022.

He was subsequently charged with eight counts of rape and sexual assault.

Alsaed has now been sentenced to 14 years in prison, and was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Qamar Islam, said: “Alsaed is a dangerous and manipulative individual, who took advantage of a vulnerable child in order to carry out terrible crimes, which will live with the victim forever.

“I would like to commend the courage and bravery of the victim, who after enduring such traumatic abuse, spoke with officers and found the strength to assist with this investigation.

“These crimes were reported to the Met in June 2022 and resulted in an arrest less than two months later.

“A successful investigation ensued due to diligent and efficient work by a number of officers involved in this case.

“I truly hope that the result today will reassure victims of rape and sexual assault, that we will do everything within our power to investigate and prosecute predatory men at the earliest possible opportunity.”
