Hundreds attended a free concert at the foot of Wembley Stadium for Valentine’s Day (February 14).

Musicians from the renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which is set to move its headquarters to Wembley Park in 2024-25, led the hour-long event.

Wembley Park’s ‘Candlelit Concert’ took place at a new bandstand, the ‘Sound Shell’, in Olympic Way.

The bandstand was illuminated by candles and a piece of pink light artwork by visual artist Yoni Alter.

The Sound Shell was designed by architects Flanagan Lawrence to echo the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium. It weighs 20 tonnes and took more than three years to make.

Alt-pop duo Freddie Joon and Clayton followed the orchestral performance.

Earlier in the afternoon, young musicians from Brent Music Academy embraced the opportunity to ‘play Wembley’, performing new pieces of music written during workshops with a range of professionals at the Sound Shell.

The Brent Music Academy is a new initiative by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Brent Music Service, Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, Brent Black Music Co-op and others, offering professional music training and experiences for young people from diverse backgrounds.
