QPR boss Neil Warnock wants Wolves to survive in the Premier League this year - partly to improve his chances of bringing back goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

Ikeme returned to Molineux this week after completing his three-month loan with Rangers, but has made it clear he would be interested in a second spell with the club.

Marcus Hahnemann and Wayne Hennessey are currently ahead of Ikeme in the queue for the keeper's jersey at Wolves and his chances of first-team football there are unlikely to increase if Mick McCarthy's men remain in the top flight.

"Carl's told me he'd love to stay, but we'll have to see what the situation is with Wolves at the end of the season," Warnock told the Times. "I hope Wolves stay up, personally.

"I like Mick and he's had some stick over the years, but I think he's done a great job.

"That's where I see QPR, doing a Wolves, but I haven't got so much time - so I need to do it as quickly as possible."

Ikeme, 23, forced his way into the Rangers side for their 2-2 draw at Blackpool in mid-January and kept Radek Cerny on the bench with a run of 17 consecutive games.

He said: "I'm going to head back to Wolves and speak to them and see what their plans are. I'm on good terms with everyone at Wolves and the only thing I know is that I do want to play.

"If I'm not going to be involved there, I do want to play somewhere. You can't beat playing and being in the reserves is not good enough, really - if you win, lose or draw it doesn't matter."

Cerny is set to regain his place when Rangers travel to face their manager's former club Crystal Palace this weekend and Warnock confirmed that he is happy to see out the campaign with just one senior keeper on the books.

"We've only got five games left and we'd be a bit unlucky for Radek to get injured straight away, but if we have to we'd play one of the kids," Warnock added.

If the manager does decide to include a keeper among his substitutes, Shane McWeeney will get the nod - otherwise skipper Mikele Leigertwood has been nominated to take over the gloves.
