Runner took part in ‘Ariel Big Sprint’ challenge
Clean minded residents rolled up their sleeves alongside an Olympic hopeful in a bid to spruce up a Kingsbury park.
Sprinter Jeanette Kwakye whizzed over to Leybourne Open Space in Leybourne Road, Kingsbury, for a clean up mission yesterday afternoon.
There she helped local neighbourhood police, students from Kingsbury High School and others to clear up grime.
The challenge formed part of the ‘Ariel Big Sprint’, a capital wide initiative which saw the athlete sprint between four dirty hotspots across London in one afternoon.
Among the clean up activities included removing fly tips, painting over graffiti and filling up bags with rubbish.
The 29-year-old athlete, who is bidding to star for Team GB in London this summer, became the first British woman to reach the 100 meters final in more than 20 years at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
She said: “I am really excited to have led the Ariel Big Sprint. I hope it inspires other Londoners to join the Capital Clean Up and help make London shine ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games.”
