Measures carried out following a string of complaints from businesses and residents

A dispersal zone has been introduced in parts of Wembley blighted by anti-social behaviour.

Brent Police and Brent Council enforced the order after reports of people gathering in shops and intimidating residents and business owners.

The restrictions will give police the power to tell groups of youths to leave the area.

Officers will patrol roads around Wembley Central, including parts of Wembley High Road, until next year.

People found guilty of intimidating or anti social behaviour could face up to three months imprisonment, or a fine of up to 2,500.

Anyone moved on is not allowed to return to the area within 24 hours and if they refuse they can be arrested.

Sergeant Neil Tulloch, from Wembley Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said he thought the dispersal order would have “a positive effect in reducing crime being committed by large groups.”

He added: “It will assist the business owners, workers and residents to enjoy a more peaceful time in their homes and shops alike.”

The dispersal order will be in place until 12am on Tuesday, March 5 2013 and residents are encouraged to notify the police if they witness any antisocial activity during this time.

The roads affected include, London Road, Wembley High Road, St John’s Road, Castleton Avenue, Clarendon Gardens and Park Lane.

Cecil Avenue, Beatrice Avenue and Rupert Avenue and King Edward VII Park are also covered.
