QPR manager Harry Redknapp has refused to outline the positions that he will look to strengthen in the January transfer window out of respect to the current crop of players.

Since taking over at Loftus Road, the 65-year-old has declared he is happy to stick with the squad that he inherited from Mark Hughes.

Rangers brought in 11 players over the summer, including Esteban Granero from Real Madrid for a reported 9million and it is unclear whether owner Tony Fernandes, who also runs Air Asia and the Caterham Formula 1 team, is prepared to bankroll any more players next month.

“I wouldn’t want to say [what areas we’re looking at] because we have players here at the moment,” Redknapp told London24.

“But it is obvious that we are short in one or two key positions otherwise we would not have been losing matches.”

Long term injuries to Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora have left QPR’s striking options limited as only Djibril Cisse and Jamie Mackie are available, while DJ Campbell is on loan at Ipswich until January.

Johnson will be one name dropping out of the Premier League’s 25-man squad because of his injury and former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane, now plying his trade in the MLS with LA Galaxy, has been touted as a short-term replacement

The R’s have had a terrible first half of the season picking up just 10 points from 17 games but won their first match of the season against Fulham on Saturday by two goals to one.

And Redknapp admits if QPR want to attract players to Loftus Road there must be a few more wins between now and the transfer window.

“We need to improve the squad if we can but we need to win a couple of games before we can do that,” added the former Tottenham manager.

“It is not going to be easy to attract people here if we are cut adrift from the league. We need to win quickly.”

Although Redknapp spoke to Fernandes last week he insists that their conversation did not involve prospective signings.

“I have never discussed transfers with him at all,” he added. “Only trying to get a result with this group if we can.

Redknapp jokingly added: “I wouldn’t think he would want to go for more transfers, would he?”

QPR face a long trip to Newcastle on Saturday to try and build a run of form that will pull them away from the relegation zone.
