Rally to take place in central London tomorrow
Campaigners will be marching to Downing Street tomorrow (Sat) against plans which will see the borough lose one of its Accident and Emergency (A&E) wards.
The march, organised by Save our Hospital campaigns across the capital, will call on the government to save the National Health Service amid casualty unit closures and fears of privatisation.
Central Middlesex Hospital (CMH), in Acton Lane, Harlesden, is one of nine A&E departments earmarked for closure across London and members of anti-cuts group Brent Fightback and other campaigners will be joining the demonstration.
The march will begin in Waterloo, central London, before heading to Downing Street for a rally where a letter will also be delivered calling for the NHS to be saved.
Sarah Cox, a member of Fightback, told the Times: “Given the recent news about the struggles of A&E services across the country this is not the time for closures.
“We will continue to fight tooth and nail for our health services.”
Members of the ruling Labour party at Brent Council and Brent Green Party will also be joining campaigners.
The rally will assemble at 12 noon at Concert Hall Approach in Belvedere Road.
