Danny Coyle, the school’s newly appointed head teacher, told the Times he was delighted to announce that the number of students achieving A* to C grades has risen from 35 per cent to 48 per cent this year.
He said: “It’s just brilliant, the kids have worked so hard, and the staff, and to go up 13 per cent is just phenomenal.”
“The school has been here 50 years and these are the best results we have ever had, for a school that has not done well academically.
“We are absolutely delighted for the kids, it’s a pointer for success in the future.”
“To have that pay off is magnificent for the school, the kids and their families.”
Last year Richard Kolka, the then headmaster of the all boys’ school in Harlesden, feared they would be forced to become academy after it failed to reach the 40 per cent benchmark set by the government.
Mr Coyle described an “electric atmosphere” as students arrived at the school today to get their results.
He gave a special mention to Kane Steadman who achieved seven A*s, four As and a B after joining the school three years ago.
“It just knocks your socks off,” said Mr Coyle.
He also congratulated Michael Gouveia, Sunit Pravinkumar, Mateusz Porebski, Sam Abi-Khalil and Wole Quadri on their A and B grades.
“They all did really well, it’s just brilliant,” said Mr Coyle.”
Paul O’Shea, who was appointed chair of the governors last September, also welcomed the results.
“I do think there is a general momentum,” he said.
“I think a jump of 35 to 48 per cent is a very significant improvement.
“The intake will go up in September and there is quality leadership here now.
“It’s a school where every boy is known and there is a very strong family feel to it and there is a lot of energy in the staff now.”
